Toronto, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 - On behalf of the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, De Sousa Costa International Inc. (DeSC) has prepared and is submitting the required application for Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, (UNFCCC) - Climate Development Mechanism (CDM) with immediate effect.
The Six Nations of the Grand River Territory have applied for registration of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) credits on a series of high carbon projects under the DeSC RippleModel™ Program. After a year of consultations, engineering expertise and value-added expert preferred vendors such as the First Nations Engineering Services, Paarl Construction, the Ediom Group, Canadian Solar and Kayanase, carefully selected to carry-out the projects as contemplated in the Program. Kayanase is an arm of Six Nations' Grand River and Employment (GREAT); the training/ apprentice and educating facility for employment for Six Nations Peoples. Canadian Solar is one of the three largest solar companies in the world with over 8,900 employees operating in 6 continents.
The Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, located in South Western Ontario Canada, is sovereign, self-governing First Nation as recognized and affirmed by Section 35(1) of Canada’s Constitution Act of 1982. Their Treaty boundaries are defined as Six miles deep from each side of the (Grand) River beginning at Lake Erie and extending in the proportion to the Head of the said River, which Them and Their Posteritory are to enjoy forever. Through contentious acts by the Crown; 13,000 of the Six Nations Peoples are forced to reside on less than 5% of the lands so promised.
At the core of these projects is an off-grid 50 MW Solar farm, which will provide affordable energy to more than 13,000 residents in the Territory whom are under stress in trying to cope with the Ontario Hydro bills. This will also provide critical water and waste water infrastructure for existing housing and fulfil their never ending stewardship for their Carolinian Forest. New jobs and training on a gender equal basis will be created in the Territory resulting from these projects.
Six Nations is committed to comply with the fundamental baseline and additionality principals for registration of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) credits. Six Nations' goal is to exceed their quest for zero emissions in the Territory, and make a significant contribution to combating climate change and preserving their forests, ecological reforestation programs, lands and natural resources. The ultimate goal is to capitalize the Certified Emission Reductions to address the unmet health and wellbeing needs of the Six Nations Peoples and sustainability.
DeSC is a registered consulting services provider with the Climate Development Mechanism (CDM) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), helping clients through the complex process from concept to the final application for registration of their projects and the issue of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) credits, which the client places with designated International Financial Institutions (IFIs), to fund capital intensive infrastructure and capacity building projects.
The DeSC RippleModel™ Program focuses on funding major multi-level infrastructure development and capacity building projects in emerging markets provided these are sustainable, create new jobs across gender lines, significantly reduce poverty with positive results, and reduce the inherent financial risks associated with such undertakings if approached as a singular project.
